If you’re planning on starting or adding to your family, missing your period is a big deal.
It’s a sure sign that you’re pregnant, isn’t it? Not getting your period on the day it’s expected can only mean one thing; that you are pregnant.
Once you realize that your period is missing, you might run straight to the store for a pregnancy test. You just know that it’s going to be positive, confirming what you already know to be true – you are pregnant.
You rush home to take your test, wait for the results, and pick up your waiting test to see the positive results. Unfortunately, you are missing your period but you’re not pregnant.
At least you’re not pregnant according to the test you just took.
Like many women you might feel a rush of disappointment and sadness. Then you remember that there are several reasons you might have a negative test result.
Obviously, the test you used was broken or expired. Maybe you didn’t follow the instructions closely enough. Perhaps you simply didn’t leave the absorbent tip in your urine long enough.
You also forgot to use your first urine of the morning, so of course your test is negative. Now you feel a bit better.
Perhaps you try to test again tomorrow morning, following the instructions closely, and using your first urine of the day. You still have a negative result, but you also don’t have a period.
What does this mean? Are you pregnant or is there something else going on? Before you panic, it’s important to understand that there could be several things at play in a situation like this.
One is that you are pregnant but that the levels of hCG in your urine are not high enough to detect by a home pregnancy test. Your body knows you’re pregnant, but there’s not enough of the pregnancy hormone to confirm it.
That’s why many doctors recommend that you wait a solid week after you miss your period to take a test.
You could also be suffering from a health problem. For this reason it is imperative you call your doctor immediately to schedule an appointment complete with a blood pregnancy test to confirm or rule out pregnancy.
2 Weeks Late on Period and Negative Test?
Many women are not actively trying to cenceive, which is why realizing they are two weeks late and taking a negative pregnancy test is a shocker.
How can your period be two weeks late and a pregnancy test appear negative?
At this point in time it is very unusual for a test to still read negative for pregnancy if you are pregnant. However, it’s not uncommon to be late for several other reasons.
Depending on your age, you might be experiencing the first stages of menopause.
While this is something that typically occurs later in life, it’s not unheard of for a woman as young as her late 20s or early 30s to experience premature menopause.
This could cause your period to go missing for a few weeks or months at a time.
Additionally, you could be suffering from another issue such as an ectopic pregnancy, or a pregnancy that’s located in your fallopian tubes. This occurs when a fertilized egg begins the journey into your uterus but gets stuck in your fallopian tubes instead.
This type of pregnancy is not viable and should be handled by a doctor as soon as possible to prevent serious health complications, surgery, and even death.
Stress is another reason your period could be late and you’re not testing positive for pregnancy.
Consider what your life has been like for the past few weeks or months. If you’ve been under a significant amount of stress or duress, you could have affected your period and your ovulation.
You may not be pregnant, but your body might not be working correctly due to the stress you’re under.
If your period is two weeks late and you’re not testing positive for pregnancy, call your doctor immediately. He or she can run tests and come up with a diagnosis to explain your missing period.
Pregnancy Symptoms But Still Negative Test?
You’re testing negative for pregnancy and your period has not arrived.
However, you do have some of the common pregnancy symptoms. This can include everything from swollen and tender breasts, lower back pain, nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to smell, food cravings, and food aversions.
You might suddenly feel completely exhausted and want to take a nap as often as possible. All of these are early signs of pregnancy in conjunction with your missed period.
However, you are still testing negative using home pregnancy tests.
There could be any number of reasons. You could have a low level of hCG.
This pregnancy hormone is the one pregnancy tests are designed to detect in your urine. Every woman’s body is different, which means your body could produce hCG more slowly than other women.
This could cause your levels to remain too low to detect for several weeks.
You could be using expired pregnancy tests.
You could be using tests the incorrect way, which can affect the outcome. You could also simply be experiencing these feelings because your period is on its way late this month.
No matter what is going on, it’s important you call your doctor. He or she can do something for you that you cannot do on your own.
Your doctor can order a blood test. No matter what your level of hCG is at the moment, if it’s present at all, your doctor will be able to tell from the results of your blood test.
Furthermore, your doctor can also perform an ultrasound around the five or six week mark of your pregnancy to see if a fetus is present in your uterus.
Confirmation of pregnancy from either a blood test or an ultrasound is a surefire way to find out if you’re pregnant.
